Physician Assistant / Nurse Practitioner
Janus of Santa Cruz is currently seeking qualified candidates for a Physician Assistant / Nurse Practitioner. The Physician Assistant / Nurse Practitioner acts as an extension of the physician in performing physical examinations, fulfilling prenatal and postpartum care requirements, and providing medical consultation. This is a full-time position, eligible for benefits.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
MEDICAL AND ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES
- Ensures that medical staff complete all required administrative reports & /or documentation in a timely manner.
- Interface with other care providers to provide integrated, whole person medical and social service care, especially with chronically ill and dual diagnosis patients
- Maintains compliance with all Title 9, Title 22, CARF, DEA and CSAT regulations.
- Maintains confidentiality of clinical records and privileged information.
- Other duties as requested by Medical Director or Program Director
- Reviews client health questionnaire and current prescribed medications, performs physical examinations and determines appropriate level of care.
- Under direction of physician, may order medications for detoxification purposes as outlined in policies and procedures.
- Monitors on-going health status of patients and assesses need of urgent or emergent care and/or transfer to higher level of medical care.
- Provide education and increased awareness about HVC, HIV/AIDS, STD and unplanned pregnancy prevention; prevention and care of abscesses and infections.
- Provide regular monitoring of pregnant and postpartum patients to support recovery efforts, evaluate for health risks to patient and fetus, assure prenatal care or other medical services, provide referrals to support services and with primary counselor, provide liaison with clinic and other service providers.
- Provide TB screening and follow up education and referral for evaluations and treatment as needed, working with PHN.
- Review changes in patients’ medication and health status, particularly for patients with hospital admissions and detox protocols.
- Review incoming medical test results and records; request needed medical records as needed
- Staff education and training as necessary.
- Work closely with Medical Director and Physicians on appropriate, detox medications for patients and other health issues that arise.
GENERAL PROGRAM RELATED RESPONSIBILITIES
- Alert Program Director to potential crises or urgent situations and/or incidents.
- Assume additional responsibility consistent with program needs and staff role, as defined in consultation with the Medical Director, Physicians and/or Program Director.
- Maintain a professional work environment with attention to patient and staff health and safety, by maintaining safety protocols, alerting management to unsafe conditions, etc.
- Reads and follows procedures as detailed in Janus’ policy manuals and program policies and procedures.
QUALIFICATIONS
- California Licensed Physician Assistant or California Licensed Nurse Practitioner with an advanced Health Program degree, at least 1 year experience with opioid drug users, prenatal care for opioid addicted pregnant and postpartum patients.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the pharmacology and physiologic effects of methadone
- Working knowledge of applicable portions of Title 9, CARF requirements, and Title 22 is desirable.
- Working Knowledge of or an ability to learn Basic Windows Office, Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint.

Clinical Director of Outpatient Services
Janus of Santa Cruz is currently seeking qualified candidates for Clinical Director of Outpatient Services. The Clinical Director reports to the Chief Operating Officer and supports Janus’s client and staff health and wellbeing by designing and sustaining behavioral healthcare throughout the organization. The Clinical Director works to ensure the Janus behavioral health team achieves high quality care and high job satisfaction and performance, while also assisting the Chief Operations Officer and the Chief Executive Officer in advancing Janus’s Strategic Plan. The Clinical Director provides direct client services at 30% of their time while maintaining leadership oversight of their programs. The Clinical Director is expected to demonstrate exceptional clinical, leadership, strategic planning, critical thinking, patient relations, organizational, and time management skills.
The Clinical Director of Outpatient Services is responsible for the following service areas:
- Narcotic Treatment Program (NTP) – In collaboration with the COO and Medical leadership, oversee behavioral health aspects of NTP
- Intensive Outpatient Program (Intensive Outpatient Services) – Women’s outpatient program and planned development of a co-ed and Men’s outpatient program
- DUI Program – Oversee standard curriculum and monitor fidelity
- Lighthouse Counseling – Provide direct service to clients and oversee program and staff while adhering to budget goals
- Project Unite – Oversee program and staff
- Youth Services across outpatient programs – Oversee youth service settings at Janus
- Any other projects that may be added due to future expansion and funding
- Responsible for tracking MAA/Medi-Cal Administrative Activities and provide direct therapy at 30% of FTE
Duties
Leadership and Supervisory Role
- Serve on Janus Leadership Team on behalf of the BH team to coordinate efforts between all programs, and to advance Janus’ Strategic Plan, initiatives, and priorities
- Maintain open communication with Behavioral Health team to hear and share their ideas and concerns with Janus Leadership Team
- Meet with individual BH team members on a monthly basis to assess job satisfaction and well-being, and offer resources and support as needed
- Develop, coordinate, and monitor Behavioral Health Provider schedules
- Review and approve staff time-off requests & approve timecards
- Oversee recruitment, interviewing, hiring, and onboarding of new employees
- Design and monitor staff evaluations annually
- Evaluate staff job performances per Janus’ policy and procedure
- Alongside program directors and managers, identify and assist staff in need of performance enhancement, quality of care improvements, general support, or training
- Provide direct supervision on performance evaluation for clinicians
- Approve contracts and grants prior to acquisition according to capacity and priorities
- Review Behavioral Health and Programmatic contracts and grants to ensure clinical obligations are met
- Develop and oversee quality improvement efforts in the following areas:
- Risk Management including reviewing and addressing incident reports as needed
- In partnership with the COO and the compliance committee develop and approve Policies & Procedures
- Clinical EBPs and implementation process including change management procedures (using PDSAs and pilots) and including monitoring processes
- Clinical Program QI projects
- Design and monitor “dashboard” or regular status reports from Directors and Program Managers
- Discuss areas of heightened concern with the CEO in a timely manner
Team Based Care and Operations
- Attend staff and management meetings, including:
- Collaborate with leadership team in order to best support clinical operations and integration
- Create, develop, and implement Behavioral Health operating procedures, workflows and policies
- Provide training and onboarding for all new staff in order to improve the integration of Behavioral Health
- Design and co-facilitate Behavioral Health orientation and offer more in-depth training to new providers or department leads
- Monitor and report out on productivity targets and current data
- Develop strategies to meet productivity goals while balancing staff satisfaction and retention
Clinical Services
- Champion integration of clinical services (SUD and BH; and by population- perinatal, MAT, Etc…) in daily practice of Behavioral Health Providers and as part of Site Leadership
- Maintain high quality care to a panel of clients
- Monitoring utilization, engagement, and training of EBPs
- Champion accreditation models as appropriate and design clinical aspects of implementation
- Develop and oversee Behavioral Health Chart Review and Beacon Quality meetings to promote clinical quality and best practices
- Promote and facilitate internship opportunities for MSW students
- Additional projects and duties as assigned by the CEO
- Perform all clinical and administrative duties expected of a Behavioral Health Clinician at Janus
Education, Training and Skills
Required:
- Current and active License in Clinical Social Work or License in Marriage Family Therapy in state of CA

IT Help Desk Technician
Janus of Santa Cruz is currently seeking qualified candidates for an IT Help Desk Technician. The IT Help Desk Technician provides IT support and solves information technology issues, troubleshoots and repairs computers, laptops, printers, and servers, ensures the security of the information systems, and works on help desk related projects as assigned by the supervisor. This is a full-time position, eligible for benefits. Pay range: $25.00 – $28.00 per hour.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Provide 1st tier support for desktop, server, storage and network systems
- Participate in the design, planning and implementation of IT projects
- Actively monitor the health of core systems, i.e. servers, 3rd party applications, and email/internet security appliances
- Assist in the planning, design, and development of new application and enhancements to existing applications
- Assists the IT Manager in preparing detailed documentation
- Perform hands-on fixes at the desktop level, including installing and upgrading software, installing hardware, configuring systems and applications, and testing fixes to ensure problem has been adequately resolved
- Support VOIP phones (Avaya)
- Build workstations using custom images as needed
- Provide printer support: e.g., mapping, drivers, toner, installing maintenance kits etc.

Requirements

Therapist – Behavioral Health (LCSW, ACSW, LMFT, AMFT)
Janus of Santa Cruz is currently seeking qualified, compassionate, person-centered therapists (LCSW, LMFT, AMFT, ACSW) that have a strong desire to provide therapy to clients who are looking to heal from addiction and mental health challenges as well as the circumstances linked to poverty, trauma and marginalization. Our Lighthouse Counseling program is a small group therapy practice and one of Janus’s many programs located on 7th Avenue just steps away from the ocean. We serve clients with diverse backgrounds and across the life-span (children, youth, adolescents, young adults, adults, and older adults) as well as couples and families. Therapy sessions are offered on a weekly or bi-weekly basis and our supportive administrative team bills our clients directly, through their private insurance or Beacon Health Strategies/CCAH (Medi-Cal). While we are small group practice, with a handful of clinicians, we are looking to grow our services and hope you will join us in making this possible with your contributions, flexibility and collaborative spirit.
JOB SUMMARY
Under the supervision of the Clinical Director the therapist is responsible for providing comprehensive psychotherapy and case management treatment services for clients in collaboration with their participation in Janus’ residential and outpatient programs.

Duties and Expectations
Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:
- Maintain and manage a client case load.
- Perform comprehensive therapy services including initial intake screening, initial assessment, ongoing assessments, diagnosis, strength-based treatment planning, progress notes, case management, crisis intervention, safety planning, discharge planning and termination.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a clinical team and respectfully with staff, residents, and the community.
- Deliver therapeutic guidance, case management and collaborative consultation to Janus programs staff (MAT, Perinatal, Admissions, Billing, Residential, Outpatient) regarding best practices to assist your shared clients with stabilization and progress toward improved mental health and emotional regulation.
- Collaborate with local providers in the community (psychiatrists, primary care physicians, acupuncture, herbalists etc.) and coordinate services to improve client resourcing and access to supportive mental health services.
- Assess for, and recognize, individuals under the influence of alcohol/or drugs.
- Identify when clients are experiencing safety issues and crisis. Therapeutically engage clients who are in crisis (homicidal/suicidal ideation, DV, intoxication, overdose, etc.) or heightened dysregulation by providing safety planning, assessment and coordinating access to stabilization or emergency services.
- Knowledge of psychiatric medications and coordination of care with medication providers when indicated. Monitor their effectiveness in supporting client’s mental health and treatment goals.
- Contribute to the referral and network of resources for our clients to support them in reaching their treatment goals.
- Supervision and Consultation
- Engage in consultation and document these efforts in the event of client safety concerns, crisis, and when reporting becomes necessary to comply with mandates.
- Licensed individuals attend bi-weekly group supervision on Wednesdays and engage in consultation.
- Interns attend bi-weekly group supervision on Wednesdays and one-on-one individual supervision weekly.
- Document sessions and progress notes in timely manner to remain contract compliant.
- Takes responsibility for self-learning by engaging participating in training’s when available to increase use of best-practices and improve clinical insight.
- Complies with all legal and ethical requirements and licensing code of ethics to maintain clients’ safety and rights.
- Maintains client confidentiality and HIPAA guidelines at all times.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date calendars and client information using practice management software.
- Complies with facility, departmental, safety and human resources policies.
- Maintains a neat, professional appearance consistent with the dress code.

Physical/Mental Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications
- California licensed or registered associate in good standing with the BBS (LCSW, LMFT, AMFT, ACSW).
- Become a credentialed Beacon Health Strategies (Medi-Cal) provider.
- We will guide you through the process of becoming a credentialed Beacon provider as many of our clients are served through this insurance. Please note that it may take up to a month for your paperwork to be processed and be fully employable (to bill for direct client contact).
- Maintain up-to-date registration and licensing status.
Licensed employees
- Complete 36 hours of continuing education before each renewal period (every 2 years).
- Newly licensed complete 18 hours of continuing education during first two years of licensure.
Non-Licensed Intern employees
- If newly registered, must take Law and Ethics Exam within first year of initial registration. Must be willing to take licensing test within 6 months of gaining all clinical hours and weeks of supervision required for testing.
- To have taken Law and Ethics Exam prior to employment
- Pass background test and health requirements.
- A strong knowledge, or desire to learn, how to treat clients experiencing addiction and co-occurring disorders, post-acute withdrawal and symptoms, medications utilized in the detox process as well as medication assisted treatment and how poverty and trauma impact addiction and mental health.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing and comfortable with electronic health records system documentation and record keeping.
- CPR Certification, First Aid Certification and an annual Tuberculosis test.
- Complete documentation accurately and in a timely manner (experience with MediCal strongly preferred)
- Current or recent professional experience conducting outpatient psychotherapy
- Preferred experience providing therapeutic services to clients with co-occurring substance use and psychiatric disorders

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Ensures that all DUI documentation is completed in an accurate, complete and timely manner in compliance with all legal, licensing and regulatory requirements.
- Completes psychosocial assessments and provides one on one evaluations for DUI clients in a timely and comprehensive manner.
- Maintain a positive therapeutic environment, providing individual counseling, group counseling and client education groups as required. Facilitates educational classes and groups in an engaging and interactive manner.
- Demonstrates and communicates a high level of understanding in chemical dependency treatment and recovery issues.
- Communicates effectively and positively with the client population, Janus staff, representatives from the community and the community at large.
- Attends staff meetings and in-service training as scheduled.
- Identifies problems proactively and offer constructive suggestions.
- Works positively and professionally with others regardless of interpersonal differences.
- Ability to provide emergency first aid and CPR if necessary.
- Ensures that the Human Rights of clients in the DUI are respected and protected and that clients are systematically made aware of their right
- Ensures that all DUI records and privileged client information is kept strictly confidential in conformity with state and federal law and regulations
QUALIFICATIONS
- 1-2 years experience as a Drug and Alcohol Counselor facilitating groups and conducting individual counseling sessions required. Experience conducting DUI classes preferred.
- Registered or certified as an RADT or Alcohol and Drug Counselor required.
- Bilingual preferred.
- Demonstrates basic computer and clerical skills.
- Demonstrates ability to interact respectfully with the public both in person and on the phone.
- Ability to work independently.

Facilities Assistant
Janus of Santa Cruz is currently seeking qualified applicants for Facilities Assistant. The Facilities Assistant is responsible for general security, site supervision and building maintenance (indoor and outdoor). The Facilities Assistant actively responds to safety concerns and develops action plans to remedy issues, and keeps a list of necessary supplies to procure for the maintenance and functioning of all Janus facilities. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Performs maintenance work including repairs of minor electrical, plumbing, drywall, painting, door hardware and other maintenance activities

Counselor – Medication Assisted Treatment Program (MAT)

EMT/Medical Assistant
Janus of Santa Cruz is currently seeking qualified applicants for an EMT/Medical Assistant at our Residential/Detox Treatment Center in Santa Cruz. The EMT/Medical Assistant evaluates current detox and residential clients and monitors the clients for any potential medical problems that would preclude a safe stay at the facility and observes residents in the facility to monitor their health. The EMT/Medical Assistant will make recommendations on who is medically fit for a continued stay at the Residential Treatment Facility, and will call for emergency assistance and transportation for residents who show signs of distress. This is a full-time position eligible for benefits.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Performs regular monitoring of Detox/Residential clients and collects data to assist in determining medical fitness to include:
- Taking and recording vitals
- Reviewing history & physical information from intake to inform quality clinical care while in treatment
- Ability to interpret a SUD history
- Complete all documentation in an accurate and timely manner
- Depending on patient acuity, periodically observes residents for signs of mental or physical decompensation that may require a higher level of care
- Administers withdrawal assessments (CIWA & COWS) and records results in progress notes
- Assists in collecting fitness information for the Medical Director
- Contacts emergency resources as needed
- Demonstrates an understanding of the pharmacology and physiological effects of alcohol and other commonly abused substances
- Provide prescribed medications under a doctor’s supervision, perform medical tests, and record basic information about current conditions of patients
- Reports all Medical Incidents to Lead Nurse, Medical Director, or designee.
- Reports any unusual occurrences to the appropriate staff
- Other duties as requested by Janus medical staff or Program Manager
- Respects and protects the Human Rights of patients
- Work closely and communicate clearly with other Center staff and referral resources to provide quality patient care
- Consistently inputs information in computer, electronic health records, and other record keeping systems to ensure treatment plans and progress notes are complete and up to date according to agency policy

QUALIFICATIONS
- Certified Medical Assistant from a California medical assistants certification, AAMA or CCBMA, or higher certification in the nursing field, or EMT certification, with at least one year of experience in a role conducting vitals and preliminary medical assessments preferred.
- Understanding the pharmacology and physiologic effects of alcohol and other commonly abused substances.
- Proficient computer skills and ability to learn and implement Electronic Medical Software (AVATAR) to perform essential job functions which will include thoroughly documenting and entering program notes in a timely manner.

SUD Treatment Specialist
Janus of Santa Cruz is currently seeking qualified applicants for An SUD (Substance Use Disorder) Treatment Specialist. The SUD Treatment Specialist is responsible for support services and general supervision of the Recovery Residential Program. This is a full-time position, eligible for benefits. - Provides cheerful and responsive customer service at all times
- Directs clients to participate in healthy, recovery oriented activity during non-structured time
- Monitor activity of residential and SCU clients at all times
- Ensures that the staff office is supplied with all forms and office supplies
- Makes or receives calls related to client care
- Maintains a schedule of important treatment events
- Collects, charts and reports client drug tests
- Acts as a communications link connecting client information to the clinical team
- Maintains a record of supply stocks and equipment and coordinating provision of materials as required

- Actively monitors and reports any safety problems
- Maintains a visible and active presence in the Residential Treatment area

- If applicable, forwards closed client files to designated staff when completed
- Checks the return of program materials and supplies when a client’s treatment discontinues
- Completes all appropriate documents accurately and within proper time frames

Office Assistant
Janus of Santa Cruz is currently seeking qualified applicants for an Office Assistant. The Office Assistant greets and directs patients to appropriate MMT services, conducts drug-screens, tracks and charts results, and maintains confidential patient files. - Track incoming patients into Tower system for dosing
- Answer phones in a professional manner; retrieve and respond to front desk phone messages

- File documents in confidential patient charts
- Create charts for new admissions.
- Create continuing numerical issues of patient files as needed; retrieve charts from storage for returning patients; transport discharged patient files to storage
- During Intakes, coordinate with Intake Team to direct patients to appropriate staff and monitor patient behavior and condition
- Supply sign-in sheets for staff meetings and trainings
- Monitor activity/behavior in lobby and parking lot, report inappropriate behavior to Clinical Manager, Nursing Services Coordinator or Program Director
- Distributes necessary information to patients
- Interact with patients in a professional, welcoming manner.
- Clear the parking lot of all patients and loiterers before leaving on weekends.

QUALIFICATIONS
- Related experience such as medical reception or office receptionist;
- bilingual preferred. Must have strong customer service skills,

- 2 years work experience in methadone treatment or other chemical dependency setting preferred.
